PANDEMIC, STALLED FACTORIES AND CURRENCY APPRECIATION - PERFECT DISASTER
posted on 05-08-2021

The Year of 2020 was promising, with the automotive sector expecting a production of just over 3 million units.
But the exchange rate pandemic came and this trajectory changed. In 2021, 2.4 million units are said to be produced, but with the lack of some components, the automobile industry
is affected.
With so many problems, this automotive chain continues to be an important sector in the national scenario.
According to the ANFAVEA-National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers portal, we have 27 manufacturers
of vehicles, trucks and agricultural machinery that together have 65 factories installed in ten states and 43
cities. The distribution of these factories in the Brazilian territory is composed as follows: 36 in the Southeast region,
23 in the South region, 3 in the Northeast region and 3 in the Midwest region.
Its representativeness, in addition to contributing to the Brazilian GDP, is in the generation of jobs, with
500 thousand direct jobs and an estimated 1 million in indirect jobs. This chain of companies (Assemblers and
Suppliers) is present in several industrial segments (Plastic, steel, electronics, electronics, chemical,
metallurgy, among others). In the last year, revenues reached approximately US$ 60 billion, generating a lot
of tax revenues (ICMS, PIS, COFINS, IPI). This number places the area in the representation of 22% of the
industrial GDP and 4% of the Brazilian GDP.
Like many Brazilians, the sector awaits the evolution of vaccination against COVID-19 and the resumption of
business, and, if the government manages to approve important agendas, growth will not be desirable, but it
will continue in constant growth.
Let's wait for the next chapters.
