SCANIA STOPS ITS FACTORY IN SAO BERNARDO DO CAMPO (2021, september)
posted on 29-09-2021

Although heavy vehicles are less susceptible to impacts triggered by the semiconductor crisis than light vehicles
, Scania was not immune to the lack of chips and had to halt its operation in São Bernardo do Campo, SP. Without
components, the lines stopped operating for eight days this month and the company already plans two more stops
next week. On Wednesday 22, only one shift operated. It was the first time that Scania stopped its lines due to lack of parts since the beginning of the pandemic,
when, in April of last year, the entire industrial sector interrupted the production process. According to the
executive director of the ABC Metallurgists Union, Carlos Caramelo, many of the components used by the companies
are imported from Malaysia, which is suffering from the third wave of covid-19 and had to close its factories.
In addition, given the semiconductor shortage scenario, the automaker has been rearranging its factories around
the world to distribute what arrives.
